Faith was reading a little Catholic propaganda today, and it was spouting some of the most ball squeeze logic I’ve ever heard: They belive all pagans came by the concept of equality from Judeo-Christians, who invented the idea, and that it’s pagans who believe in slavery.
Now I could go on about the same things I imagine any of you would, about how Christians “knew” their right to enslave other races and cultures was detailed in the bible, and anyone who wanted to abolish slavery was wicked in the eyes of god. And they “knew” that, as superior Christians, they had the right — nay, the responsibility! — to convert, tread on, rob, rape, torture, purchase, and destroy whomever they deemed un-Christian, which meant anyone they pleased. The White Man’s Burden, I belive it was. They also believe they are the ones their God loves best, and so they own the world and it’s people.
I could say that, and Christians could deny it on the basis of being ignorant of their own history — if something is true, but Christians don’t want it to be true, if they weren’t taught and re-taught that truth by every other Christian they knew from the time they were born and onward, they have the luxury of refusing to accept it based on their religious beliefs.
But here’s something they should have to accept: They believe their God made Adam and Eve, as opposed to Adam and Steve, right? And that God created the world and everything on it, humans included, exactly as they exists now in just six days, and therefore evolution is a lie, right? And even if they renounce all other books of the Old Testament, they need Genesis to be literal so they can condemn gays and Darwinism, right? Well, one of the first lessons of the bible and what has historically seemed to be the point of Genesis in Christian interpretation is that God made woman just for man. That woman was made inferior to man — as demonstrated by her weakness of character, her stupidity, and her animal nature — and as a punishment for defying God’s will and ruining paradise single-handedly, God then made women subservient to men.
This belief has not only been used by Christians to enforce gender inequality as a law for two-thousand years, it also means that it’s a fundamental Christian belief that half of the world’s population should be enslaved. So eat me, Christians. If you don’t accept that human inequality is a fundamental Christian belief, then you don’t belive that Genesis must be taken literally, to the letter, and you’ll have to find another way to persecute your enemies. Suck it!
