Okay. Our cat’s been missing for over two weeks now and I’m going nuts. There was I time I wouldn’t worry as much, because Shortcake’s always been a tough lady, but she’s fifteen years old now and never stopped tempting fate — bothering younger, stronger cats, teasing dogs, getting stuck in basements and people garages, climbing up trees she couldn’t climb down from, running around in the street and sleeping on/around cars, etc. And sometimes she’d just start living somewhere else.
But it’s different this time, she left so suddenly, and there’d been some big tom cats harassing her for weeks now. At least she was well fed before she disappeared. I’ve asked around the neighborhood, I regularly check the property, and spend every morning tearing up, wondering what the hell happened to her. I know she’s an old cat, but if she’s gotta die, I don’t want it to be because she froze or starved to death, or because she had a bad fight or took a bad fall. I want it to be because she’s old, or hugely fat and too content to move.
So, to whatever spirit is in charge of the fate and well being of kitties, please, if she’s already gone, hope with me that it was of old age. And if my kitty’s still alive, don’t let her be hurt or scared. Let her be happy, warm, and spoiled rotten, whether she comes home or not. She’s a stubborn old bitch, but she’s a lady, and deserves her kitty-dignity.
